The death row prisoner Zulfiqar alias Nana was awarded the death penalty in 2001 after he had been found guilty of killing four police personnel in 1997.

Zulfiqar’s dead body was handed to his heirs after the execution.

Since December 2014, 212 persons who were found guilty of committing murders or terror attacks have been executed in various jails across Pakistan.

The federal government lifted a six-year moratorium on death penalties following the December 16 Taliban attack at the army-run school in Peshawar.

The international organizations including the United Nations, the European Union, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have urged the Pakistan government to re-impose the moratorium on the death penalty.

However, Pakistan says that the execution is its internal affair and carried out according to its Constitution and laws.
