In a bit of weird news, some unknown entity is screwing around with the web address of National Highway Authority (NHA). The whole thing may very well be a cruel joke or an effort to show the inadequacy of computer literate people in the government sector as can be seen whenever you try to open the more secure https version of the NHA’s website, you end up on what seems to be a Telemart webpage. The emphasis is on the words “seems to be” as the webpage is lacking a style sheet and feels more of a scam than the original Telemart website.
Telemart is an online merchant with their head office being located in Karachi, Pakistan. Like many other online companies such as Home Shopping Network, Daraz.pk and TCS Connect, the website mainly focuses on selling various electronics as well as other household goods to generate their revenue.
There are several reasons why the NHA’s Https website is acting this way, it can either be due to the fact that developers placed Telemart’s data in their https folder or it can be someone going through a very clever algorithm to piss a few people off. In any case, it’s not like the NHA is bound to care as quite frankly most government websites in our country are only there for decoration purposes and aren’t updated on a regular basis. Let’s see how long does it take for the IT department in our government to realize what’s going on.
