ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has said that the time has come to put an end to communal politics, and asked the Hindus and Muslims to live together.

“Every community needs to live together. Hindus and Muslims should decide whether they want to fight against each other or against poverty,” Modi said at a rally in Nawada district of Indian state of Bihar on Thursday.

His remarks came in the wake of lynching of a 50-year-old Muslim man in Dadri city of Uttar Pradesh state by an enraged mob over rumours that he had stored and consumed beef.

“We should put an end to communal politics”, Modi was quoted as saying by Zeenews. Modi father said that the nation must stay united.

Earlier in the day, Pakistan also voiced its concern over the lynching of a man in Dadri and said that the country which claims to be a secular state should guarantee the basic rights of minorities.

“India is the second largest exporter of beef in the world. This obviously cannot happen without slaughtering of cows,” the Foreign Office Spokesman Qazi Khalilullah said when asked about the eruption of violence in India on cow-slaughtering at the media briefing in Islamabad on Thursday.

The spokesman said that attacks on Muslims on the issue of cow slaughtering are beyond comprehension and a cause of concern for the Muslim Ummah.
