PESHAWAR/QUETTA, Pakistan: A three-day polio drive will begin in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Quetta on Saturday, aimed at vaccinating children under the age of five.

A total of 32,87,429 children will be administered anti-polio drops in 13 districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa which include Bannu, Charsadda, Dera Ismail Khan, Hangu, Karak, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, Mardan, Nowshera, Peshawar, Swat, Tank and Torghar

The Officials of Polio Emergency Operation Centre of Health Department said that a total of 9,876 polio teams have been deputed for the campaign which include 8,444 mobile, 863 fixed and 67 roaming teams whereas 502 transit points have also been set up for the purpose.

Meanwhile, a three-day anti-polio campaign will also kick off tomorrow in Quetta during which at least 375,906 children will be administered anti-polio drops.

Later, the anti-polio drive will also begin in other 11 districts of Balochistan including Killa Abdullah, Pishin, Killa Saifullah, Khuzdar, Loralai, Jaffarabad, Nasirabad, Dera Bugti, Lasbela, Sherani and Zhob.

Talking to media, the Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) Balochistan said that all arrangements have been completed for the Sub-National Immunisation Day (SNID) campaign in 12 districts of the province.

During the drive, around 27,998 children of Afghan refugees will be administered anti-polio drops.

In 2015, a total of 38 cases have been reported across the country, out of which six cases were reported in Balochistan.
