SportsPak-India cricket talks cancelled after Shiv Sena attack

MUMBAI, India: The scheduled meeting between Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) officials in Mumbai has been cancelled after Hindu extremists of Shiv Sena stormed the BCCI headquarters on Monday.

The meeting was scheduled on Monday between the PCB Chairman Shehryar Khan and the BCCI Chairman Shashank Manohar at the BCCI headquarters in Mumbai and at which the both the sides had to discuss the restoration of Pakistan-India bilateral cricket series.

However as the PCB Chairman reached the BCCI office for the meeting, the extremists ransacked the office and chanted slogans against Shehryar Khan and Najam Sethi and demanded their immediate return to Pakistan.

Shiv Sena fanatics threatened that they would not allow cricket series between Pakistan and India.

The meeting has now been cancelled following the attack of Hindu extremists.

Later talking to media, PCB chairman Shehryar Khan said that he is visiting India at the invitation of BCCI.

The bilateral series between Pakistan and India could not be held for quite some time after the relations between the two South Asian countries turned unpleasant. In addition, the deteriorated law and order situation in Pakistan also caused cancellation of all Home series against international sides including India.

But like other series Pakistan is forced to host in foreign venues such as UAE, Pakistan is willing to host India in venues other than its own, and for this purpose efforts are being made to restart the bilateral encounter in the field of cricket.

The attacks and protests by Shiv Sena to cause the hurdle in normalization of Pakistan-India ties are not the first incident, earlier this month the Hindu extremist group did not allow the holding of concerts by a veteran Pakistani singer Ghulam Ali in the Indian state of Maharashtra.

Later launching of a book written by former Pakistan Foreign Minister Khurshid Qasuri also witnessed some embarrassing moments due to Shiv Sena.
