ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: As the first phase of local government elections in Punjab and Sindh is set to take place on Saturday, the electioneering is in full swing for the much-awaited polls.
The sources said that the candidates vying for the seats of Chairman, Vice-Chairman and Councillor are going door to door and holding corner meetings to garner public support.
The first phase of the local bodies elections is being held in 12 districts of Punjab including Lahore, Faisalabad, Gujrat, Chakwal, Bhakkar, Nankana Sahib, Kasur, Pakpattan, Okara, Lodhran, Vehari and Bahawalnagar.
Likewise, the polls will also take place in eight districts of Sindh which include Sukkur, Khairpur, Ghotki, Larkana, Shikarpur, Jacobabad, Kashmore and Qamber.
As per schedule issued by the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP), the local bodies polls in second and third phase in the two provinces will be held on November 19 and December 3 respectively.
ICT LG Polls: Nomination papers for submission from today
Meanwhile, the process of filing nomination papers for the first ever local government elections in the Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) begins today.
The scrutiny of nomination papers will be conducted from November 1 to 4 while appeals about them can be filed on November 5 and 6. Likewise, appeals will be disposed of from November 7 to 9.
The candidates can withdraw their candidature on November 10 and final list of contesting candidates with symbols allotted to them will be published the following day.
The Polling for the local government elections in the ICT will be held on the November 30 while results will be declared on December 3.
