Aerial strikes kill 10 militants in Khyber agency’s Tirah Valley

PESHAWAR, Pakistan: At least 10 militants were killed while several others sustained injuries in fresh aerial strikes carried out by the security forces on Tuesday in the Khyber agency, one of Pakistan’s seven semi-autonomous regions near the Afghan border.

The security sources said that the air strikes were carried out in Tirah Valley of the Khyber tribal region, causing destruction to five hideouts of the militants.

Earlier on Sunday, at least 35 militants including foreigners were killed in Dattakhel tehsil of the North Waziristan agency when air strikes were conducted there as part of the ongoing military operation Zarb-e-Azb against various outlawed militant groups.

The security forces began the operation Khyber-I in the Khyber agency in October last year amidst a full-fledged military operation Zarb-e-Azb launched in the North Waziristan tribal region on June 15.

The operation Khyber-I was launched in Bara and Tirah Valley of the Khyber agency against Lashkar-e-Islam (LI), a banned militant organization active in and around the tribal region and is currently headed by Mangal Bagh.
