KABUL, Afghanistan: A group of militants launched coordinated attack on a number of security check posts in Nari district of Afghanistan’s eastern Kunar province on Saturday morning.
The Afghan security forces retaliated and killed at least eight militants as well as injured 12 others.
However, two members of the Afghan security forces were also killed during clashes with the militants.
The provincial police chief General Abdul Habib Syed Khel said that the militants belonged to the Pakistani Taliban and Lashakr-e-Taiba.
The Taliban militants group claimed to have occupied at least three security check posts. However, the local security officials rejected the Taliban claims for occupying the security check posts.
Earlier in the day, the local security officials said that a US drone strike killed five militants and injured three others in Kunar, one of the volatile provinces in eastern Afghanistan.
The security officials said that the airstrike was carried out in Manodi district on Friday.
