RAWALPINDI, Pakistan: The Commander Resolute Support Mission in Afghanistan General John Nicholson held a meeting with the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif at the army’s general headquarters in Rawalpindi on Saturday.
In a press release, the Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said that during the meeting, regional security issues and matters of mutual interest including border management mechanism along Pak-Afghanistan border were discussed.
Earlier in the morning, Pakistan-Afghanistan Torkham border was reopened for all kinds of traffic after successful negotiations between authorities of the two countries.
The traffic remained suspended for five days after the Afghan troops opened fire to halt construction of a gate inside Pakistani territory, which resulted in martyrdom of Pakistan army Major Ali Jawad Changezi. In addition, several security personnel and civilians were also injured in the firing.
Sources said that only the people having legal travel documents are being allowed to cross the border after it was reopened.
