ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation Zalmay Khalilzad has reiterated that peace in Afghanistan is vital to the long-term stability of Pakistan and the wider region.
Zalmay Khalilzad made these remarks when he met key officials in the government of Pakistan at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Islamabad on Tuesday during his first visit to Pakistan since being named the Special Representative by the US Secretary of State Pompeo.
During his stay in Pakistan, Zalmay Khalilzad while heading a US delegation comprising of security, defence and diplomatic officials met the Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi and the Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua.

The Special Representative consulted with Pakistani leaders on how best to achieve a durable political settlement in Afghanistan.

During the meeting, the Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi reiterated Pakistan’s efforts for achieving peace in Afghanistan.
Zalmay Khalilzad left for Saudi Arabia after completing Pakistan’s visit
The US Special Representative for Afghanistan Reconciliation traveled to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia after departing from Pakistan, said a statement issued by the US Embassy in Islamabad on Wednesday on the conclusion of his visit to Pakistan.
