KABUL, Afghanistan: The Afghan President Ashraf Ghani Ahmadzai has welcomed Pakistan’s latest efforts for peace and reconciliation in Afghanistan.
In a statement in Kabul, Ashraf Ghani said that Pakistan’s cooperation for peace and stability in Afghanistan is sign of improving ties between the two countries.
The president said that Afghanistan appreciates Pakistan’s recent efforts in paving the ground for peace and reconciliation.
Afghanistan “appreciates Pakistan’s recent efforts in paving the ground for peace and reconciliation”, Ghani said according to a foreign news agency.
“We welcome the recent position Pakistan has taken in pronouncing Afghanistan’s enemy as Pakistan’s,” he added.
On Friday, the Pakistani Foreign Office spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said at her weekly media briefing in Islamabad that Pakistan would continue to extend its full support to Afghan reconciliation process.
In reply to a question regarding reports of resumption of talks between the Afghan Taliban and the Afghan government in Qatar, Tasnim Aslam said that Pakistan is ready to play the role of a facilitator.
However, she said that the reconciliation process between Kabul and the Afghan Taliban should be owned and led by Afghanistan.
