ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Federal Minister for Interior, Planning, Development and Reforms Ahsan Iqbal on Monday emphasized the need for formulation of a multidimensional strategy to address the issue of water shortages.
While addressing a five-day Conference on the use of Space Technology in Water Management in Islamabad, the minister said water was lifeline for agriculture and economy, adding no economy could progress without availability of water.
The minister said due to increasing population, the World as facing issue of water shortage. He said water shortage ways challenge for all the Countries.
Ahsan Iqbal said a joint funds needed to be established by the Countries situated along the coastal belt to speed up research as to how the sea water could be used for agriculture and other purposes.
The planning and development minister further said Space Technology today was guiding them in every aspect of economic activity. He said efficient use of water was possible through the use of Satellite Technology.
The minister pointed out that Islamic Countries were lagging behind in the Space Technology and it was need of the hour to invest in it to achieve the objective of sustainable development.
