ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) has decided to prepare short and long-term plans to develop innovative projects in the field of science and technology for commercial purpose that benefit the society.
According to an AIOU official, the establishment of “Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialization (ORIC)” was an initiative taken by Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Shahid Siddiqui.
The department was aimed at maintaining liaison with industrial sector to share the latest academic research and innovative ideas in relevant fields, he said while talking to APP.
The office works as a bridge between researchers and the end-users for the application of latest knowledge (new innovation), he added.
He said it was also decided to hold a national conference of the University’s Alumnis in September this year to share their experience and achievements in the field of science and technology.
The university would also work patent’s rights of its scientific products for their commercialization, he added.
The official said an online data bank would also be set up for dissemination of research-based study among the stake-holders.
Necessary funding would also be arranged for the purpose.
It was also decided to find out opportunities for promoting public-private sector partnership for introducing new technologies and innovations in the agriculture and industrial fields, he added.
