ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) to hold a national exhibition to project new inventions by researchers and academicians working in the field of science and technology.
The Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Shahid Siddiqui told media that the AIOU, being the Mega University in the public sector wished to encourage the young scientists to apply their research findings for benefit of the society.
This will provide a platform to young scientists to present their community-based projects for competition. These inventions can be instrumental in their industrial and commercial production and may play a role in the socio-economic uplifting of the society. The winners will be awarded special prizes.
Besides students of AIOU, those from other educational institutions will also be allowed to participate in the exhibition, he said. The University has also set up a separate office of research, innovation and commercialization to maintain liaison with industrial sector to share latest research in relevant fields, he added.
The office will work as a bridge between researchers and the end-users for the application of latest knowledge in a particular field. The society should get the benefit of research findings, being carried out in the educational institutions, he said.
He noted that the Higher Education Commission has allocated a huge funds for the research work and now it was the duty of the universities to ensure its proper use and disseminate their research findings among the end users and the policy-makers for the socio-economic development of the country.
