ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Peoples’ Party (PPP) senior leader Aitzaz Ahsan on Tuesday announced his resignation from the Senate, saying that the resignation should be accepted and the rest of the decisions were in the hands of the party.
The Election Commission of Pakistan should rise from its slumber, Ahsan said while speaking to media representatives in Islamabad. He said the results of constituencies which recorded 150 per cent voter turnout should be re-assessed and their results be reviewed.
His wife, Bushra Aitzaz, who had contested from Lahore’s NA-124 in the May 11 polls, lost against Rohail Asghar, a candidate from Pakistan Muslim League – Nawaz.
The resignation of Aitzaz Ahsan, who was elected Senator in the 2012 election of the Parliament’s Upper House, is the second to come from within the PPP’s ranks.
Earlier today, Manzoor Wattoo resigned from his position of the party’s central Punjab president days after PPP suffered a defeat in Punjab in the May 11 elections.
