Al-Shabab militants kill 28 non-Muslims in northeastern Kenya

NAIROBI, Kenya: The Somalia-based militant group al-Shabab has killed 28 non-Muslims in northeastern Kenya on early Saturday.

The incident took place in an area, 50 kilometers away from Mandera town near the Somali border, where a bus with 60 passengers on board was traveling to the Kenyan capital Nairobi but was hijacked by al-Shabab militants.

The militants stopped the bus and separated 28 non-Muslims from others and killed them.

The East African country has suffered a series of attacks by al-Shabab since it sent its troops into neighboring Somalia in October 2011 to fight against the militant group.

The authorities said that there have been at least 135 attacks in Kenya since then by al-Shabab, the group which pledged allegiance to al-Qaeda in 2012.

Later, Kenyan troops joined the African Union Mission in Somalia battling the al-Qaeda affiliate al-Shabab.
