Ankara, Turkey: Turkey is ready for April 16, 2017 constitutional referendum to expand presidential powers, reports Dispatch News Desk (DND) news agency.
Ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) is busy in door to door campaign while Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is seen holding public meetings.
Referendum is being held to abolish the 1923 constitution and marginalize powers of the Prime Minister and placing a new form of Presidential system in the country.
Facing criticising from European Union for human rights violation, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan is holding referendum to get absolute power by abolishing 12 clauses of 1923 constitution dealing with power of prime minister, the cabinet, the parliament and human rights.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has to go for referendum because his party cannot change the system through parliament because it is short of absolute majority of that needs 367 votes for constitutional amendments in parliament.
The opposition is calling amendments as a move to place a form of kingship by replacing Turkish democratic system while government believes that amendments would help Turkey to prosper.
Prime Minister Yildirim is campaign for President Recep Tayyip Erdogan  and believes that referendum will determine road map for a century.
It may be mentioned that the Turkish parliament has already approved constitutional amendments to provide exceptional powers to president to appoint judges and declare a state of emergency. These two powers were previously with parliament.
