PESHAWAR, Pakistan: The Election Commission has completed all arrangements for free, transparent and smooth holding of sixth by-election on vacant seats of the villages and neigbourhood councils in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to be held on Wednesday.

The Provincial Election Commission (PEC) KPK Spokesman told the state-run news agency on Tuesday that all election materials have been provided to presiding officers being sent to their respective polling stations.

The polling will start at 8am and will continue till 5pm without any break. The returning officers will announce election results on May 19.

The districts where local government by elections are being held include Peshawar, Nowshera, Mardan, Karak, Hangu, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, DI Khan, Abbottabad, Batgram, Swat, Buner, Shangla and Upper Dir.

Over 1,52,000 registered voters will exercise their right of franchise in these elections for which 132 polling stations and 362 polling booth were setup.

As many as 135 presiding officers, 362 assistant presiding officers and 362 polling officers were appointed who were properly trained for these elections.

The provincial election commissioner Pir Maqbool Ahmed has requested voters to come to polling stations and cast their votes without any fear as foolproof security arrangements have been made in this regard.

The Election Commission has directed the Provincial government for making local holidays in the concerned villages and neigbourhood councils so that voters can use their right of franchise with ease and comfort.
