PESHAWAR/KARACHI, Pakistan: The third case of polio in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa in 2019 has been confirmed, the Health Department said.
The Health Department said that the polio virus has been detected in a three-month girl named Fatima in Tal area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Hangu District.
After the emergence of a new polio case, the number of polio cases in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa this year has reached three.
The Health Department said that the provincial government has decided to conduct a three-day polio drive in 21 districts from February 18. It said that as many as 4.7 million children would be administered polio drops during the campaign.
Meanwhile, in a meeting headed by the Commissioner Karachi Iftikhar Shalwani, it has been decided that a nine-day anti-polio drive will be launched in 106 Union Councils (UCs) of Karachi from Monday (February 18), which will continue till February 26.
A target of 1,529,000 has been set to administer polio drops to children under the age of five years.
On the occasion, foolproof security arrangement will be made for the security of polio workers and holding successful drive.
