ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Raheel Sharif on Tuesday called upon Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif.
In a meeting held at the PM House in Islamabad on Tuesday, the two leaders discussed issues pertaining to national security during the meeting.
The two leaders expressed satisfaction over the improved security situation in the country and stressed upon the need for sustained efforts in this regard.
Sources said that the issue of Panama Papers also came under discussion during the meeting while the COAS stressed the need for resolving the issue as soon as possible as it is not only ruining the image of Pakistan across the world but also the operation against terrorism is being affected by it.
It is pertinent to mention here that during his visit to the Signal Regimental Centre in Kohat on April 19 this year, the army chief said that unless the menace of corruption is not uprooted, the ongoing war against terrorism and extremism cannot bring enduring peace and stability in the country.
The differences between the government and the opposition over terms of reference (TORs) for the Commission to investigate Panama Papers allegations continue to persist as the opposition overlooks the TORs prepared by the government, calling them time consuming while the ministers allege that opposition’s TORs are Nawaz Sharif-specific and are rather ‘terms of revenge’.
The long-absent prime minister plans to attend the session of the National Assembly on Friday and reply to allegations surfaced in Panama Papers after the opposition threatened not to take part in proceedings of the Parliament till the prime minister comes and apprises the House about his asset details.
