ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Expressing concerns over the non-compliance of anti-COVID-19 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and detection of the Indian variant, the Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Asad Umar has warned that the fourth wave of Coronavirus might batter the Country earlier than expected.

The COVID-19 Cases are again gradually on the rise in Pakistan as in the last 24 hours, 1,737 more infections were reported with a positivity ratio of 3.65%.

In a tweet on Friday, Asad Umar said that two weeks back, he had tweeted that their artificial intelligence models were showing the possible emergence of the COVID-19 4th wave.

Now there were clear early signs of the 4th wave starting, he added.

The minister said that poor COVID-19 SOP compliance coupled with the spread of variants of concern, the Indian variant in particular, are the main cause of Coronavirus Cases.

In another tweet, the minister further said that field reports are showing a complete disregard of the condition of vaccination for those attending indoor weddings and going to indoor restaurants and gyms.

Asad Umar said that if the owners of these facilities do not show responsibility and ensure the SOP compliance, there will be no choice but to shut them down.
