ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif on Monday left for Beijing to attend the first meeting of the Trilateral China-Afghanistan-Pakistan Foreign Minister’s Dialogue, the Foreign Office said.

The dialogue will take place in Beijing on Tuesday (December 26) in which besides Khawaja Asif, the Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and the acting Afghan Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani will also participate.

In a statement, the Foreign Office said that the dialogue is part of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s initiative for trilateral consultations between Pakistan, China and Afghanistan for strengthening of relations and developing cooperation between the three Countries.

The Foreign Office said that in addition to the trilateral meeting between the foreign ministers of the three Countries, the Foreign Minister Khawaja Asif will also have a bilateral meeting with his host Foreign Minister Wang Yi.

“As a common neighbor and friend of Afghanistan and Pakistan, China always supports Afghanistan and Pakistan to live in friendship and achieve common development,” the Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Hua Chunying said last week.

Hua Chunying said that the three Countries will have in-depth discussions on three topics: mutual political trust and reconciliation, development cooperation and connectivity, and security cooperation and counter-terrorism.

The Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesperson said that they hope the talks would build consensus, enhance mutual trust, promote improvement of Pakistan-Afghanistan relations.
