BAGHDAD: At least 12 people were killed and 48 others wounded in two back-to-back car bombings and a suicide attack in a wholesale market north of the Baghdad on Monday, officials said.

The blasts struck a predominantly Shiite town of Judaida al-Shat in Diyala province as fruit and vegetable stall owners were crowding the market, purchasing goods for the day’s trading, a police officer and a medic said.

No group immediately claimed responsibility for the attacks, but Sunni militants linked to Al-Qaeda often target Shiite Muslims, whom they regard as apostates, in simultaneous and mass-casualty bombings.
