KARACHI: At least 39 policemen have been suspended in east zone of the metropolis following the same action in south zone where 31 police personnel have been arrested for involvement in corrupt practices on Wednesday.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) East Muneer Ahmed Sheikh said all the suspended personnel hail from east zone.
The police chief of east zone said the department has been receiving complaints against these suspended personnel from the citizens.
Earlier briefing the media about strident action against corrupt police personnel, Deputy Inspector General (DIG) South Abdul Khalique Sheikh said at least six personnel have been suspended for involvement in crimes including bhatta activities, adding at least 31 others have been arrested and departmental inquiry has been instituted against all of them.
Meantime, four police of Aziz Bhatti Police Station have been apprehended for extending help to criminals.
Sub-inspector Bashir Ahmed, Sub-Inspector Mithal, Sajjad Shah and Saad Khan have been charged that they returned the firearms recovered from criminals of Lyari gang-war for Rs.300,000.
