The MeToo movement and the hashtag that followed on social media became a source of bringing many women to justice who were sexually harassed and abused by powerful men, especially in the industry. Just like the other countries of the world, this movement also spread like a wildfire where famous celebrities also stood up against alleged harassers including Ali Zafar. This time around, Ayesha Omar has opened up about harassment in a shocking discovery.
Ayesha Omer Was Harassed!
Many might not believe it, since Omar is a very vocal and bold actress, but in a recent Instagram live with the flag-bearer of #MeToo movement, Rose McGowan who is a Hollywood actress, she shared her side of the story too and we are shocked. The bold and confident actress talked to McGowan about the movement and both shared their horrifying encounters with the abuse from powerful men in the respective industries.
She Shares Her Story
Ayesha went on to share her complete story. In the live session on Instagram, when sharing her story, she said:
“A huge powerful man, twice my age. I had just entered the industry, I was this young 23-year-old, fresh out of college, and bam, this started happening. And it went on for years. It wasn’t a one-off incident, and I just didn’t want to process it. I put in a box and said okay, this is happening in my life. I have to deal with it.”
Omar further told McGowan that she did not want to share this with anyone else. The stigma, the pressure, and what would ensue was so much that she kept her quiet. She continued:
“For 15 years I let it stay there, and I finally spoke about it to someone two years ago.
“A friend of mine from the industry also came out with her story, and TV channels started calling me up and asking, Do you think she’s telling the truth?
“They asked me if sexual harassment happens in the industry and that’s the first time I said yes. They asked if it happened to you, and I said yes. I will talk about it someday, but not today. I still haven’t named my monster, but I’ve started talking about it.”
Who This Man Is?
As mentioned above, Ayesha Omar did not share the name of her alleged harasser because she is still processing what happened. She has now started to speak up on the movement alongside her story of the abuse she had to go through. We can only root for her to stay strong and not let this experience get the best of her.
Ayesha and Rose McGowan plan to go live next week again as well. We can only hope that these two strong women can pave way for many other girls to open up about their experiences and put these harassers to their place, so no woman again has to face the torture they have to face almost every day.
