Azerbaijan’s first national satellite, telecommunications apparatus Azerspace-1, developed by the U.S. Orbital Sciences Corporation has reached its orbit. Ariane 5 rocket with two telecommunications satellites – the first Azerbaijani satellite Azerspace-1 and the Spanish unit Amazonas-3 – was launched from Europe’s spaceport at Kourou in French Guiana on Friday.

After 28 minutes of travel at a height of 1.05 thousand kilometers from the launch it separated the satellite Amazonas-3, and after 36 minutes of flight at the height of 2.5 thousand kilometres, rocket separated Azerbaijani apparatus. Azerbaijan’s first national satellite, telecommunications apparatus Azerspace-1, developed by the U.S. Orbital Sciences Corporation on the platform Star-2. Operator is the state of “Azerkosmos.” The satellite weighing 3.3 tons installed 24 transponders in C-band and 12 – Ku-band. The device will serve customers in Eastern Europe, North Africa, the CIS, Central and Eastern Asia.
