LONDON: The United States has not stopped drone attacks in Pakistan’s tribal areas as part of any deal between the two countries, the prime minister’s advisor on national security and foreign affairs Sartaj Aziz said in an interview with BBC.
Aziz, who is on an official visit to the United Kingdom for a review of the Enhanced Strategic Dialogue (ESD) between Pakistan and Britain, said that the drone attacks were not stopped as a facility for Pakistan to hold talks with the Taliban.
The advisor said Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif during his visit to the United States had raised the issue with the Obama’s Administration. He said that the prime minister had impressed upon the American authority that drone attacks are useless and ineffective to curb terrorism.
Sartaj Aziz said that although the US has not announced formally to halt drone attacks‚ but it seems that it has understood Pakistan’s concerns on the issue.
