DHAKA: The Bangladesh Election Commission announced on Monday that general elections will be hold across the country on January 5 next year, rejecting the opposition parties demand to set up a neutral caretaker government to oversee the polls prior to the election date announcement.
The main opposition coalition had demanded Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to resign and transfers power to a non-partisan caretaker administration to oversee the elections before the election date was announced.
However, Hasina rejected the demand and formed a caretaker cabinet to oversee the upcoming elections earlier this month.
