QUETTA: At least 47 people were killed while over 150 others were wounded including children and women in a powerful blast that targeted Hazara Community in Quetta on Saturday, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.
According to reports, the incident occurred when a remote-controlled bomb targeting Hazara community went off in a busy market on Karani Road in Hazara Town, Quetta. Many vehicles were also damaged due to the blast.
Heavy contingent of police and Frontier Corps (FC) rushed to the spot soon after the blast and cordoned off the area.
The dead and injured were taken to the Civil Hospital and Bolan Medical Complex. Police also confirmed the blast. However, nature of the blast and identities of the victims were yet to be ascertained.
President Asif Ali Zardri, in a statement, has slammed the blast.
While condemning the violent incident, Maulana Nasir Abbas, Secretary General of Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen (MWM), has called for a shutter-down strike in Quetta on Sunday.
Tahafuz Azadari Council (TAC) said that it would observe a week-long mourning against the inhuman act of terrorism.
