PakistanBokhari submits reply over petition against his appointment as NAB chief

ISLAMABAD: National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Chairman Admiral (retd) Fasih Bokhari on Saturday submitted his reply in the Supreme Court in connection with a petition challenging his appointment as the bureau’s chief.

In the reply submitted by Bokhari’s lawyer Latif Khosa, it was maintained that Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan filed the said in order to malign the president and win political favours for the petitioner during the 2013 general elections.

The NAB chairman said the petition was ineffective, following the end of Chaudhry Nisar’s tenure as the opposition leader. He added that the public had dismissed the former opposition leader from both his provincial and national assembly seats.

The reply added that the procedure to remove a chairman of the NAB was similar to that of removing a judge of the apex court.

Moreover, Bokhari’s reply stated that a former opposition leader could not become a party to the process of appointing the NAB chairman when there was a reference against the chief of his political party under review in the bureau.

Subsequently, the hearing was adjourned to Monday.
