ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Brigadier (retd) Muhammad Musaddiq Abbasi has been appointed as the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Interior and Accountability, replacing Mirza Shahzad Akbar.

In exercises of the powers conferred by clause (1) of Article 93 of the Constitutions of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the President, on the advice of the Prime Minister, has been pleased to appoint Brigadier (Retd) Muhammad Musaddiq Abbasi, as Adviser to the Prime Minister on Accountability and Interior, with immediate effect,” said the notification issued by the Cabinet Secretariat on Wednesday.

Brigadier (retd) Musaddiq Abbasi has earlier served as the Director-General National Accountability Bureau (NAB).

Earlier on Monday, Shahzad Akbar relinquished his services as the interior and accountability adviser, saying “I have tendered my resignation today to PM as Advisor. I sincerely hope the process of accountability continues under the leadership of Prime Minister Imran Khan as per PTI’s manifesto. I will remain associated with the party and keep contributing as member of legal fraternity.”
