WorldBritish PM Theresa May announces resignation

LONDON: The British Prime Minister Theresa May on Friday announced her resignation, saying she would relinquish her duties as the premier on June 7, the Dispatch News Desk (DND) news agency reported.

Theresa May will also step aside as the leader of the Conservative Party.

“I will resign as leader of the Conservative and Unionist party on Friday, 7 June so that a successor can be chosen,” Theresa May made the announcement outside her former residence at No. 10 Downing Street.

The British prime minister expressed regret that she couldn’t to secure a Brexit deal, though she added that serving as the British prime minister was “the honour of my life”.

“I will shortly leave the job that it has been the honour of my life to hold,” she said with tears in her eyes.

“Our politics may be under strain but there is so much that is good about this country, so much to be proud of,” May further added.

Commenting on Theresa May’s resignation, the Conservative lawmaker Peter Bone said that she has made the right decision.

Peter Bone said that the next leader has to be someone who believes in Leave and someone not associated with the Brexit deal.
