ISLAMABAD: A spokesman of Prime Minister House on Sunday clarified that no amendment has been made in the law pertaining to capital punishment.
The spokesman said President Asif Ali Zardari was on a foreign tour; therefore the matter has not been discussed with him by the PM. He said the president is authorized to convert the death penalty into life imprisonment.
Sources claimed that the Interior Ministry had sent summary about executions of several death row prisoners, but the Presidency hadn’t responded as yet.
