ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Prime Minister Justice (retd) Nasir-ul-Mulk on Tuesday directed that a robust strategy should be followed to achieve pre-set milestones within specific time frame to ensure success of the plan for revival of the Pakistan International Airlines (PIA).

In a meeting at the Prime Minister’s Office in Islamabad in which he was briefed about the functions of Aviation Division, Justice (retd) Nasir-ul-Mulk appreciated various measures being taken by the division to enhance coordination among various organizations linked with aviation sector for resolving operational issues and to ensure maximum safety of air travel.

The briefing was attended by the Minister for Aviation Lt. General (retd) Naeem Khalid Lodhi, the Secretary Aviation Dr. Ijaz Munir, the Additional Secretary to the Prime Minister Dr. Kazim Niaz, the Director General Airport Security Force (ASF) Major General Ali Abbas, the Director General Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) G. Hassan Baig, the Director General Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) Ghulam Rasool, the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Pakistan International Airlines Corporation Limited (PIACL) Musharraf Rasool and senior government officials.

The secretary aviation made a presentation on the mandate and efforts of the Aviation Division for the development, promotion and regulation of aviation sector of the Country besides ensuring safety of air traffic and aerodromes.

The secretary also briefed the prime minister, in detail, about the affairs of various organizations including CAA, PIA, ASF and PMD.

While briefing the prime minister about the aviation policy, it was informed that the National Aviation Policy 2015 was under review to cater for the improvements identified during its implementation.

It was informed that efforts were afoot to make PCAA, as regulator, independent of service providers. Similarly, the Safety Investigation Board was being insulated from CAA to ensure highest standards of air safety and its independent working.

The meeting also reviewed matters relating to PIACL.

The issues confronting the organization and the business plan for revival of the flag carrier were also discussed during the meeting.
