ISLAMABAD: The Swiss authorities have said that they cannot reopen cases against Pakistan’s President Asif Ali Zardari, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported on Saturday.
In response to a letter written by government of Pakistan a few months ago on the directives of Supreme Court in the NRO implementation case, the Swiss authorities, in a letter, have expressed their inability to do so, sources said. Federal Law Minister Farooq H Naek has confirmed receipt of the letter from Swiss authorities.
The minister would soon call on the President to brief him about the contents of the letter from Swiss authorities, sources said.
It is pertinent to mention here that the much awaited letter – that led to ouster of former prime minister Yusuf Raza Gilani from his office – was written to the Swiss authorities in November 2012, following the Supreme Court orders in NRO implementation case.
The apex court had given the government one-month deadline to write the letter to the Swiss authorities to withdraw a previous letter to the Swiss government by former attorney general Malik Qayyum, seeking closure of alleged graft cases against President Asif Ali Zardari.
