ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The opposition leader in the National Assembly Syed Khursheed Shah has expressed the hope that within next two to three days the name will be finalized for the new Chief Election Commissioner (CEC), a post that has been vacant since August last year.
Taking to media representatives in Islamabad on Thursday, the opposition leader said that the CEC will be appointed with consensus.
Khursheed Shah said that talks were held with Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif with reference to names for the CEC.
The opposition leader said that he will also hold consultations with other opposition parties regarding appointment of the CEC.
The Supreme Court of Pakistan on October 30 rejected Khursheed Shah’s request for granting three months period for the appointment of the CEC and directed to complete the process of consultation for CEC’s appointment by November 13.
