ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: A locally-made private Chairlift fell into a deep ditch near Murree on Thursday, resulting in deaths of at least 11 persons and injuries to two others.
Reports said that the unfortunate incident occurred near Panwari Village of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa adjacent to Murree wherein a Chairlift collapsed.
Reports said that the lift had been manufactured manually and installed by locals near Panwari Village to connect two Villages Tret and Dannah. However, they didn’t get approval in this regard from the concerned authorities.
As a result of Chairlift Collapse, 11 persons including a woman and a child died while two persons received injuries and were subsequently shifted to the Holy Family Hospital in Rawalpindi for medical treatment.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and the Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif expressed grief over the loss of precious human lives in Murree Chairlift incident.
The Chief Minister expressed heartfelt sympathies to the bereaved families. He also directed to provide best possible treatment to the injured persons.
The cause of the Chairlift collapse was yet to be ascertained.
The number of visitors in various northern areas including Murree had increased these days due to Eidul Fitr to enjoy festivity at scenic hilly picnic attractions.
