Most children in KPK, FATA inoculated against polio: FO

ISLAMABAD: The Foreign Office said on Thursday that unlike the perception‚ most of children in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the Federally Administrated Tribal Areas (FATA) have been inoculated against polio.

In her weekly media briefing in Islamabad on Thursday, the Foreign Office Spokesperson Tasnim Aslam said that federal and provincial governments are determined to eradicate polio from the country. She said that immunization of children against polio relates Pakistan’s future.

The FO spokesperson said that Pakistan is well-aware of World Health Organization’s (WHO) concerns and recently in her visit to Pakistan‚ the head of WHO held very constructive meetings regarding the issue. She said that despite the security concerns‚ WHO is keen to help Pakistan in overcoming the problem.

Aslam said that a decree issued at a conference in Jeddah attended by Ulemas from across the world declared polio vaccine as Halal and legitimate.

The spokesperson said that polio vaccine being used in Pakistan is procured from Indonesia.
