LAHORE: The Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif on Friday asked Rana Sanaullah to step down as the provincial law minister over the Model Town incident; however, the Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) chief Dr Tahirul Qadri rejected Rana Sanaullah’s resignation.
The development comes in response to the outrage against a police crackdown on workers of the PAT in Lahore on Tuesday in which nine persons including two women were killed while several others were injured.
In a press conference in Lahore on Friday, the chief minister said that even though Rana Sanaullah has performed his duties in an honest manner, he has asked him to resign for the sake of justice.
The chief minister also removed his principal secretary Dr Tauqir Shah who had been serving with him for the last 15 years.
However, rejecting the resignation of Rana Sanaullah the PAT leader Dr Tahirul Qadri demanded that Shahbaz Sharif should himself resign.
Meanwhile, Rana Sanaullha has reportedly sent his resignation to the Punjab Chief Minister while Rana Mashood is likely to become new provincial law minister.
