ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The first meeting of the Committee formed to lay down recommendations to lift the ban on the installation of electricity and gas meters in Islamabad was held on Wednesday with the Federal Minister for Law and Justice Farogh Naseem in the Chair.

The Committee was formed last month for the removal of difficulties in the installation of electricity and gas meters in Islamabad and tasked to give its recommendations to the Federal Cabinet within 60 days.

The Committee consisted of the Minister for Law and Justice as the Convener, the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Parliamentary Affairs, the Prime Minister’s Adviser on Accountability and Interior, the Chairman Capital Development Authority (CDA), the Representative of Planning, Development and Special Initiative, and any Co-opted Member (s) the Committee deems necessary.

The law and justice minister said that the Committee’s recommendations will be tabled before the Cabinet within 60 days. Farogh Naseem said that the public has already suffered a lot due to the negligence of the institutions. In his remarks, Ali Nawaz Awan said that the provision of basic necessities to the people of Islamabad will be ensured.

The Committee discussed in detail the decision by the Cabinet in 2004 in addition to the Courts’ decisions and other issues leading towards the imposition of restrictions on the installation of meters in Islamabad.

The law and justice minister said that the Committee’s recommendations will be tabled before the Cabinet within 60 days.

Farogh Naseem said that the public has already suffered a lot due to the negligence of the institutions.

In his remarks, Ali Nawaz Awan said that the provision of basic necessities to the people of Islamabad will be ensured.
