NewsComplaints lodged against Uber drivers

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: Initially, app based ride-hailing taxi services received wonderful response in Twin Cities soon after their launch and even the situation remains the same hitherto; however, now complaints have begun surfacing against their drivers.

It wasn’t long ago when Careem and Uber marked their arrival in Islamabad and Rawalpindi; equipped with innovative ideas, fast, comfortable and economical transportation facilities, and job opportunities; they soon succeeded to win people’s trust and took over as the best taxi services.

In the meantime, app based taxi services had to face some legal issues as well as traditional taxi drivers grumbled and lodged protests, arguing that the arrival of Careem and Uber had, to a large extent, put negative impact on their business. But yet not only, both taxi services struck deals with the local administration but continued to remain the best choice of commuters.

However on November 19, a woman went to I-9 Police Station to file an FIR against an Uber driver Muhammad Ayub who, according to her, had molested her. But the police didn’t register the FIR; therefore, the women moved to the Court which eventually ordered the police to file the FIR.

The police though registered the FIR as per the Court’s orders but yet didn’t apprehend the driver.

Prior to that, the Deputy Commissioner and area Magistrates also received several complaints against Uber drivers.

According to Daily Nai Baat, the Capital Police is reluctant to take any action against the ride-hailing services after the later reached an agreement with the local administration. That’s why, women are compelled to approach the Courts.
