ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi has said that they would endeavor to persuade the opposition parties to extend their support for the bill, aimed at to creation of the South Punjab Province.
Talking to media in his Chamber in National Assembly on Monday, Shah Mahmood Qureshi said that neither the ruling Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) have the required two-third majority in the Lower House of the Parliament nor it enjoys a majority in the Senate, the Upper House.
Therefore, he added that they are not in a position to officially move the bill in the House. He said that if the PTI government had a two-third majority in the National Assembly, they would surely have opted to table the bill in the House as they had earlier promised to the masses.
Qureshi said that since they don’t have the required number of lawmakers in the Parliament, they would have to talk with other political parties and build a consensus.
The foreign minister also said that they are going to allocate funds for the South Punjab Secretariat in the budget 2019-20.
