ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Islamabad Capital Territory (ICT) has launched a crackdown against Sheesha Centres in the Federal Capital and apprehended three people (Sheesha Centers in Islamabad).

Sources said that the action was taken by the Kohsar police as per the directives of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Islamabad Mohammad Aamir Zulfiqar Khan.

They said that the police launched the crackdown against Sheesha Centers in E-7 and Jinnah Super Market. They said that the police seized nine Sheesha/Hookah and 16 flavours from ChenOne Plaza and Caffe Latte Shaheen.

Sources further said that the police also nabbed three persons and registered a case against them. The further investigation was underway, they added.

Last month, the Islamabad police formed special squads to launch effective crackdown against those involved in drug peddlers and Sheesha/Hookah Centers in the Federal Capital.

In addition, an awareness drive was also for the parents and students of educational institutions as how to ensure protection against this menace.

It is pertinent to mention here that the in February 2016, the Supreme Court of Pakistan directed the all four provinces to hold legislation over ban on Sheesha Smoking Centers.

However in November 2016, the Senate Standing Committee on National Health Services’ (NHS) turned down the ‘Islamabad Prohibition of Sheesha Smoking Bill 2016’, seeking a ban on Sheesha and other injurious substances.
