IndiaDemocracy has been destroyed in India, says Prashant Bhushan

New Delhi, India: Facing a suo moto Contempt of Court trial, one of the most popular Human rights watch lawyers of India, Prashant Bhushan has said that democracy has been destroyed in India in the last six years.

Prashant Bhushan recently criticized Chief Justice of Indian Supreme Court Sharad Arvind Bobde in his tweets for hypocrisy and for his political alignments with the BJP government.

In his June 29, 2020 tweet Prashant says:

JI (Chief Justice) rides a 50 Lakh motorcycle belonging to a BJP leader at Raj Bhavan Nagpur, without a mask or helmet, at a time when he keeps the SC in Lockdown mode denying citizens their fundamental right to access Justice!.

Prashant has been vocal against BJP over its role in Delhi riots and the Kashmir genocide of Muslims.

Supreme Court Chief Justice took a suo moto against Prashant and asked him for an apology which Prashant denied and said that he is (was) ready to face imprisonment instead of tendering an apology for something he said based on truth.

63-year-old Prashant Bhushan is known for his outspokenness and public-interest petitions in India. Bhushan had filed a number of corruption cases under previous governments as well as under the BJP rule.

Recently, Bhushan filed public interest suits accusing PM Modi of corruption and involvement of BJP government for killing Muslims in the February riots of New Delhi.

Prashant Bhushan in his Supplementary Statement submitted in Supreme Court on August 24, 2020 categorically stated that he would not tender an apology to court because his conscious is clear about whatever he commented about the Supreme Court of India and his judges in past.
