Government of PakistanDevelopment is govt’s core agenda: Marvi Memon

TURBAT, Pakistan: The Federal Minister of State and Chairperson of Benazir Income Support Programme (BISP) Marvi Memon has said that the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) leadership pays no heed to the baseless accusations as serving the public is more important than wasting time in futile blame games.

“Development is government’s core agenda,” Marvi Memon said when she visited Turbat area of Balochistan on Monday as part of beneficiary outreach campaign just ahead of the launch of pilot phase of National Socio-Economic Registry (NSER) update.

While addressing a gathering of elected members of local bodies, notables and BISP beneficiaries in Turbat, Marvi said that BISP under directions of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Finance Minister Senator Ishaq Dar would ensure that Balochistan gets equity in the new poverty survey.

However, she added that this is possible only if remote areas of Balochistan are covered well in the new survey.

Responding to the queries at the Press Club, the Chairperson BISP said that deserving women left out in the previous survey conducted in 2010 under last government would be covered in the re-survey.

Marvi Memon said that BISP would make sure that no deserving remains deprived of financial assistance from the programme as Balochistan is on the priority.

The state minister also briefed the local folk about new payment mechanism and complimentary initiatives of BISP.

Moreover, she said that being the directory of real poor, updated NSER would be an asset for all. She said that updated NSER would contribute towards effective policy making and better targeted programs as the incumbent government believes in work and serving people is its mandate.

The BISP will initiate re-survey by middle of this year in 15 districts and a tribal agency namely Mirpur (AJK), Charsadda, Lakki Marwat, Haripur (KPK), Chakwal, Layyah, Faisalabad, Bahawalpur (Punjab), Jacobabad, Sukkar, Thatta (Sindh) ,Gilgit (Gilgit Baltistan), Qila Saifullah,, Kech, Nasirabad (Balochistan) and Mohammad Agency (FATA).  After completion of the pilot phase, national roll out of resurvey will start in January 2017.
