Direct peace talks between Taliban, govt committees possible on Friday: Sami

MULTAN: The direct peace talks between the Taliban negotiating team and the newly-formed government committee could take place on Friday as the dialogue process has entered a decisive stage now.

Talking to media representatives in Multan on Thursday, the chief of negotiating team nominated by the outlawed Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) Maulana Samiul Haq said that the location to hold direct talks between the two parties would be decided today and the meeting could take place tomorrow.

Maulana Sami said that all factions of the Taliban were united over the issue of holding talks, adding that the Ahrarul Hind was a fictitious group which had no links with the TTP.

The TTP committee chief said that the TTP were asked to release a few prisoners as a gesture of goodwill and also to deal with elements that could possibly sabotage the peace talks.

In addition, he said that the constitution of Pakistan was based on the principles of Islam and the real issue was its proper implementation.
