Earlier on September 13, President Arif Alvi had written a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Sikandar Sultan Raja, proposing to hold the general elections on November 06, 2023.

In his letter, the president had maintained that the National Assembly was dissolved on the advice of the Prime Minister on August 09, 2023 whereas the Article 48(5) of the Constitution empowers and mandates the President “to appoint a date not later than ninety days from the date of the dissolution, for the holding of a general elections to the Assembly.”

Therefore, the general elections to the National Assembly should be held by the 89th day of the date of the dissolution of the National Assembly i.e., November 06, 2023 (Monday).
