PoliticsECP halts victory notifications of Imran Khan

ISLAMABAD, Pakistan: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Tuesday issued notifications of all the successful Candidates in the general elections held last month; however, it held back the formal notification of Country’s Prime Minister in-waiting Imran Khan’s success in all five National Assembly Constituencies.

The notifications were issued on the ECP website.

The Election Commission halted notifications regarding successful Candidates in 20 Constituencies due to pending cases in various Courts.

The notifications regarding Candidates nominated for reserved seats will be issued on Saturday.

The Chairman Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) contested the general elections 2018 from NA-35 Bannu, NA-52 Islamabad-II, NA-95 Mianwali-I, NA-131 Lahore-XI, and NA-243 Karachi East-II, and emerged victorious in all five National Assembly Constituencies.

But the ECP today didn’t notify Imran Khan – whose PTI emerged as the largest political party in the Country by bagging 116 National Assembly Seats – as the successful Candidate from any of the Constituencies he won from.

The Election Commission halted the victory notifications of Imran Khan as the Lahore High Court (LHC) had ordered the ECP not to notify the PTI Chairman as a successful Candidate from NA-131 on a petition filed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) Khawaja Saad Rafique while hearing of four other Constituencies was underway in the Commission.

The PTI’s Parliamentary Committee has already nominated Imran Khan as the party’s Candidate for the Office of the Prime Minister.
