ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Friday prohibited all political parties and election candidates from indulging in personal attacks against one another, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.
The ECP said making personal remarks against any political personality would be deemed as violation of the electoral code and conduct and action would be taken against violators.
Presidential spokesperson Senator Farhatullah Babar had earlier complained to the ECP about the ‘political vilification’ of President Asif Ali Zardari.
Senator Babar had asked the chief election commissioner, Justice (retd) Fakhruddin G Ebrahim, “to look into this [matter] and issue directions to political parties, particularly the PML-N leadership, to desist from partisan political attacks against the person of the president of Pakistan.”
