ISLAMABAD: The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has decided to hold the upcoming elections under new electoral reforms, Dispatch News Desk (DND) reported.
An ordinance for the electoral reforms is being prepared which will be forwarded to caretaker government for approval as soon as it assumes the office, ECP’s member from Punjab Justice (retd.) Riaz Kayani told reporters.
Kayani said that under the constitution, President is bound to issue the ordinance within 15 days after Prime Minister’s recommendation. He said that the electoral reforms are necessary to ensure holding of free and fair elections.
The ECP member said if government fail to provide Rs 4 billion then it will be difficult to hold elections in time, adding that he doesn’t expect the releasing of funds from the current government. He expressed hope that the caretaker government will issue the funds.
